{"id":128,"date":"2006-09-02T15:34:55","date_gmt":"2006-09-02T13:34:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.moonbug.org\/log\/?p=128"},"modified":"2006-09-06T15:42:13","modified_gmt":"2006-09-06T13:42:13","slug":"angeles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.moonbug.org\/log\/2006\/09\/02\/angeles\/","title":{"rendered":"Angeles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You may have noticed my linking a couple of days ago to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ultimate-guitar.com\/tabs\/e\/elliott_smith\/angeles_ver2_crd.htm\">a guitar-tab page<\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/sweetadeline.net\/\">Elliott Smith<\/a>&#8216;s song &#8220;Angeles&#8221;. In my opinion, this is one of Elliott&#8217;s most brilliant compositions &#8212; lyric-wise as well as melody-wise. As with many of his tunes, <em>Angeles<\/em> sounds deceptively simple. Only when you attempt to sing and play it on the guitar does it become clear how intricate and beautiful the chord changes are. There&#8217;s a different chord just about every single word and if you&#8217;re going to play it right, you&#8217;re going to have to know every single one of them.<\/p>\n<p>Obsessive as I am, I spent the last couple of days trying to master the tune. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moonbug.org\/log\/video\/Angeles-ElliottSmith-cover.mov\">Here&#8217;s a little QuickTime video<\/a> with a version I&#8217;m moderately satisfied with, warts &#8216;n all (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3VVpCbgMLMw\">YouTube edit<\/a> for those on dial-up). It obviously comes nowhere near <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EAOxo8qH_AQ\">the way Elliott Smith performed it<\/a> &#8212; although on occasion <em>Angeles<\/em> proved to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FMMOqA8zqYg&#038;mode=related&#038;search=\">a tough one to play live<\/a>, even for him&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You may have noticed my linking a couple of days ago to a guitar-tab page for Elliott Smith&#8216;s song &#8220;Angeles&#8221;.
