The twist being of course that this Baxter guy was an idiot who goes <em>&#8220;crikey&#8221;<\/em> and <em>&#8220;by Jove!&#8221;<\/em> ad nauseam. His nemesis was to be Inspector Dexter, sort of the <em>Bezu Fache<\/em> of the stories. I also made it a point to have each character&#8217;s name end in &#8220;xter&#8221;, as it seems like every single Brit in the 30s had a name like that. Anyway, the thing never got off the ground &#8212;  although I did make the above one-pager.
